MAJULI: A massive dust storm struck Assam's Majuli today, causing a chaotic situation and sparking panic. The gusty winds from the storm were so strong that it completely swept away the ferries parked at the Dakshinpat (Kamalabari ghat), making them drift away.

The storm was so severe that the ferries lost control, getting stuck in the middle of the Brahmaputra river for a long period of time in such harsh weather conditions.

The magnitude of the storm was such that a safety rope tied to one of the feries parked at the shore got detached, thereby leaving the ferry in a dangerous situation.

The stranded passengers onboard were left in a state of fear as the ferocious storm lasted almost 45 minutes which made it impossible to bring the floating vessels under control.

After the intensity of the storm reduced, the stranded ferries were somehow brought back to the ghat. Fortunately, no casualties or any other untoward incident was reported to have occurred and everyone managed to survive this massive storm.

This horrifying incident highlights the risks associated with river transport, especially in the face of adverse weather conditions. People have been urged to exercise caution in extreme weather conditions and prioritize their safety and well-being over any other thing.
