DEMOW: International Nurses Day was recently observed at the Demow Model Hospital cum CHC, located in Konwar Dehingia. Before the commencement of the programme, a tribute was paid to the soldiers.
A meeting was organized at the hospital, presided over by Rina Gohain, Retired Assistant Matron of Demow Model Hospital. The event was anchored by Puspanjali Saikia, Assistant Matron of the hospital, who also spoke about the objectives of the programme.
Runuma Hadhanidar, Advisor of the All Assam Nurses Association, and Junu Chutia Dehingia, general secretary of the association, were present as chief guests. The programme began with a chorus performed by the nurses of the hospital.
An earthen lamp was lit in front of the photograph of Florence Nightingale by Junu Chutia Dehingia. A cake-cutting ceremony was also organized to mark the occasion.
Several retired staff members were felicitated with a phulam gamosa, including Dipali Dutta, Rumi Borah, and Guneswari Phukan (all retired assistant matrons of Demow Model Hospital); Runu Dutta and Champa Dutta (retired staff nurses); Anjana Gogoi and Lalita Sensua (retired sisters-in-charge of Sivasagar Civil Hospital); and Kumkum Chetia (retired upper division assistant of Demow Model Hospital).
Hiranya Dutta, a retired teacher who used to clean the hospital campus every day, was specially felicitated with a phulam gamosa and a cheleng chadar.
Dr. Rupam Borkakoty, Deputy Superintendent of Demow Model Hospital, along with doctors Dr. Simanta Jyoti Taye, Dr. Surajit Giri, and Dr. Gaurav Chaudhury, were also felicitated with a phulam gamosa. As part of the International Nurses Day celebration, various competitions were held two days prior, and prizes were distributed to the winners during the programme on May 12.
