GUWAHATI: In a significant move, Jayanta Mallabrauah chaired a meeting with the Kamrup Metro District Administration and officials from various concerned departments to review the relief measures for citizens affected by the artificial flooding in Guwahati caused by incessant rainfall.
During the meeting, it was decided that an ex gratia amount of ₹4 lakh would be provided to the families of those who lost their lives in this disaster. The mayor of Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Shri Mrigen Sarania; the district commissioner of Kamrup (Metro), Shri Sumit Sattawan; senior officials from concerned departments; and councillors of GMC attended the meeting. The meeting was held in the Office of the District Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro), Hengrabari, Guwahati.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in Assam was intense on Sunday as 10 major rivers were flowing above the danger level, and 78,000 people were affected by the flood in more than 15 districts. Tripura also witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple districts on Sunday and is expected to receive extremely heavy downpour in isolated areas till June 4.
The death toll in rain-induced landslides, floods, flash floods, and lightning across the northeastern region has reached 30 since the night of May 29. According to data provided by officials in the affected states, 22 people lost their lives on Saturday, May 31.
