DIBRUGARH: The under-construction Khanikar Stadium in Dibrugarh will be completed by the end of this year, significantly boosting the sporting infrastructure of Upper Assam with an increase in seating capacity from 5,000 to 25,000.

During a recent visit, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inspected the progress of the ambitious project and directed officials to ensure timely completion with all modern facilities in place.

The stadium is expected to become a prominent sporting hub for the region, capable of hosting large-scale events and nurturing local talent.

Once completed, the stadium will feature a main gallery, indoor stadium, hostel facilities, VIP block, swimming pool, and other world-class amenities.

The development is part of the state government’s vision to enhance sports infrastructure and promote youth engagement through sports across Assam.

Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the government’s commitment to building robust sporting facilities in every region and highlighted the role of Khanikar Stadium in shaping Dibrugarh into a center for sports excellence in Upper Assam.

Locals and sports enthusiasts have welcomed the move, expressing hope that the stadium will bring national-level events and greater opportunities for aspiring athletes from the region.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the ongoing stadium construction site at Khanikar, Dibrugarh, last year in December and expressed his dissatisfaction over the slow progress of the project, which began in 2019.
