Assam: Kharupetia civic body chairperson attends national conference on ULBs

KMB Chairperson Krishna Saha joined a ULB meet in Gurugram on ULBs’ role in democracy, with 14 civic leaders from Assam attending.

MANGALDAI: Krishna Saha, Chairperson of Kharupetia Municipal Board (KMB), expressed immense joy and enthusiasm for participating in a two-day national conference for chairpersons of urban local bodies (ULBs) from states and union territories. Held in Gurugram a few days back, Indian Parliament in collaboration with the Haryana Legislative Assembly organized the event. The conference, themed 'Role of Urban Local Bodies in Strengthening Constitutional Democracy and Nation Building,' saw participation from 14 chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of municipal bodies from Assam.

Speaking to mediapersons after taking part in the conference, Krishna Saha described the event as a high-level gathering, rich with insights. The discussions focused on uplifting the most marginalized sections of society, advancing women's empowerment, and promoting a clean environment. The conference featured notable figures, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the Chief Minister of Haryana, and several Union Ministers, who emphasized the pivotal role of local governance as a cornerstone of democratic politics. The Indian Parliament, as the nation's supreme elected body, initiated this platform to enable ULB chairpersons to exchange perspectives on the significance of urban local bodies within the constitutional framework and address contemporary challenges. KMB Chairperson Krishna Saha extended her gratitude to Om Birla for his leadership in organizing this impactful conference.
