Dhekiajuli: In a remarkable display of community effort and devotion the residents of Krishnanagar in Dhekiajuli have successfully reconstructed and inaugurated their revered Naamghar which had been in a state of disrepair for years. The grand opening ceremony was led by Shobhan Mahanta the Satradhikar of Boralimora Satra in Tezpur marking a significant cultural and religious milestone for the people of Dhekiajuli Co- District.
Originally built in 1982 the Naamghar had gradually deteriorated due to natural wear and infrastructural changes in the surrounding area. Over the time elevated roads on both sides of the structure caused it to sink rendering it nearly unusable. Recognizing the historical and spiritual significance of the Naamghar the local people took matters into their own hands for rebuilding it entirely through public donations and voluntary labor without any government assistance.
The inauguration ceremony was held today at 10 AM included the installation of the Singhasan (altar) and the recitation of Naam Prasanga (devotional prayers). Despite challenging weather conditions including biting cold, light rain and dense fog, hundreds of devotees participated in a Prabhat Pheri (morning devotional procession) and Usha Kirtan at dawn. The spiritual fervor continued with a traditional Jalarohan (water collection ritual) performed by seven young girls followed by the hoisting of the Dharma Dhwaja (religious flag), Banti Prajwalon (lamp lighting), Prasad distribution and Mahabhog offerings. In the evening, the local people illuminated the Naamghar and their homes, symbolizing the light of faith and unity.
The celebrations will extend into January 31 with Bhagavata recitations and interpretations by Acharya Madhurya Bora. A commemorative book will also be unveiled by retired Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta with Assam’s Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal attending as the chief guest. The final day’s events will include traditional Assamese performances such as Dihanam and Borgeet along with a felicitation ceremony honoring contributors to the reconstruction effort.
This grassroots effort to restore the Krishnanagar Naamghar underscores the deep-rooted faith and resilience of the Assamese people in preserving their spiritual and cultural heritage.
