DIBRUGARH: In a significant turn of events, fear among locals has been heightened as a leopard attack in Chandra Nagar, Kunhiabari, on the outskirts of Dibrugarh town has left two residents injured. The incident, which occurred late Friday night, has intensified concerns over the ongoing leopard menace plaguing the region.

The victims, identified as Govind Rajbongshi and Tikendra Pathak, were attacked while tying cattle in a shed near their homes. The leopard pounced on them, inflicting injuries to their hands before fleeing the scene.

The Dibrugarh Forest Department dispatched a team to the site after promptly receiving the information. Officials assured the public that efforts are underway to trap the leopard, providing firecrackers to deter the animal in the interim. “We are taking all necessary measures to capture the leopard and ensure the safety of residents,” a forest official stated.

The leopard’s reign of terror is not new to Dibrugarh. For months, the animal has been prowling the town, preying on domestic animals and instilling fear among residents. Previous incidents of livestock attacks have been reported across various parts of the town, but the latest assault on two individuals in their homes has escalated public anxiety.

Similarly, a man named Sunil Telenga from the tea garden was attacked by a leopard while he was on his way to cut grass at the nearby Letekujan Tea Garden.
