Assam: Life imprisonment to one for killing parents in Kamrup district

The Additional Session and Special Judge Mukul Chetia sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his parents.

RANGIA: The Additional Session and Special Judge Mukul Chetia on Tuesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his parents. The victims were identified as Debru Kakati, (75), and Basanti Kakati, (70,) of  Barmarai village under Kamalpur police station in Kamrup district. According to  the Additional Public Prosecutor Debojit Saikia, Dwipen Kakoty of  Bormaroi village under Kamalpur police station has beaten his parents to death with tree trunks on August 16,  2020 at 7.30 am. in their residence. After being informed the Kamalpur police rushed to the spot and apprehended the accused red handed. Police registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (No. 133/20) at the Kamalpur police station on the basis of an FIR lodged by his brother Bhupen Kakati. Later he was produced before the Rangia Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate’s Court. After five years the Additional Session and Special Judge Mukul Chetia sentenced the accused Dwipen Kakoty  to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 and one month imprisonment without payment. The charges were filed under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code in the court of Rangia Additional session Judge and special Judge Mukul Chetia. The judgment was passed on the basis of case number 14/2023. The court sent the accused to Nalbari jail custody under tight security.
