BAKSA: Alert locals thwarted a bold attempt to steal equipment from a mobile tower in Aohata, Baksa district of Assam.

Two individuals, Mofidul Islam and Asadul Ali from Khorishalar, Barpeta, were apprehended while descending from the tower, situated at Ranjit Kalita's residence.

The duo, believed to have been involved in similar thefts at other mobile tower sites, were confronted by an enraged mob as they descended. The angry locals physically assaulted the thieves before law enforcement arrived at the scene.

The prompt intervention of the police prevented the situation from worsening and resulted in the arrest of both individuals. The thieves are now in police custody, where they are being interrogated to uncover more details about their criminal activities.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, the Guwahati police arrested a gang of five individuals for their alleged involvement in a statewide grand theft auto operation. Sources reveal that the Crime Branch of the Guwahati Police apprehended the suspects based on specific intelligence inputs.

Although the source did not disclose the details of the arrest, it was revealed that the five suspects had been actively involved in vehicle theft for several years. The gang typically targets parked vehicles in public areas where the owners are not present.

The gang is suspected of being active not only in Assam but also in other parts of the Northeast. The police are investigating potential cross-border connections.
