DHUBRI: In a tragic incident, a young man, identified as Dayal Das, suffered serious injuries after falling from a boat-themed amusement ride late last night, disrupting the ongoing Ashokashtami fair in Dhubri.
As part of the fair’s attractions, the ride, brought in from outside the state and set up on land, caters to thousands of visitors annually. For urgent care, Das has been admitted to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), with his condition currently being monitored.
The incident has brought to light serious safety issues at the fair, which attracts large audiences every year, where out-of-state operators establish numerous entertainment stalls each year.
This incident has caused concern, though the event usually brings enjoyment. Following the fall, Das was quickly rescued and transported to DMCH in order to prevent a potentially worse outcome, as per reports.
Now, concerns are being raised regarding the sufficiency of safety rules, particularly whether the amusement ride holds a valid fitness certificate, which seems to have been neglected. Despite such policies being mandated by law, ride staff admitted that no life insurance coverage is in place.
Meanwhile, an accident occurred earlier in March, resulting in serious injuries to two young men. According to reports, the youths named Bhagya Jyoti Das and Rishi Das from Rangagarh Hat were riding a scooter towards Mahuramukh Chariali when they collided with an LC goods vehicle parked by the roadside near the school.
