BOKO: In a tragic incident, a man lost his life after a herd of wild elephants attacked him on Wednesday midnight. According to the locals, a herd of wild elephants entered Mauchuwa village along the Assam-Meghalaya border under Bondapara Forest Range of West Kamrup Division in search of food from the jungle. Locals said that when villagers tried to chase the herd, the wild elephants attacked Kumud Rabha (48 years) and he lost his life on the spot.

Later, the police and forest department reached the spot and recovered the body. On Thursday, Boko Police sent the body to GMCH for postmortem. Meanwhile, locals alleged that the forest department failed to chase the herd of wild elephants back into the jungle.

“They didn’t take any action even after being informed, especially in Bondapara Forest Range,” said an anonymous villager. It is to be mentioned that more than 40 wild elephants including baby elephants have grazed in the West Kamrup Division areas, especially in the villages and the banana and other gardens since last one month. However, the forest department has failed to chase them back to the jungle yet. In this regard, while trying to contact the West Kamrup DFO Subodh Talukdar, he didn’t respond.
