CHIRANG: The investigation officers of Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam have undergone advanced training focused on inquiry and case examination for strengthening wildlife protection measures. The senior officer made this announcement on Tuesday, emphasizing that it is important to enhance the officers' skills.
Field Director C. Ramesh reported the participation of 27 investigating officers from six forest divisions in an intensive five-day refresher training programme held in the Bansbari range. The Programme was aimed at upgrading their skills in investigation techniques, collection of evidence, and formulation of wildlife offences keeping in view the latest amendments to the Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972, besides recent developments in criminal laws and procedure.
The Field Directorate of Manas Tiger Reserve, in association with the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), conducted the training. Ramesh mentioned that the programme intended to fill in the knowledge gaps among the investigating officers, thus ensuring that they are up to date on current legal frameworks.
Besides this training, it conducted sessions on relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA). Ramesh added that this kind of trainings are part of an ongoing process that enhances the capabilities of investigating officers so as to equip them with the skills needed for adapting to procedural change that the present amendments of laws enforce upon them.
