Assam: Memorial Lecture in Dhekiajuli Honors Loknayak Ameo Kumar Das on Death Anniversary

DHEKIAJULI: Loknayak Ameo Kumar Das, a Gandhian leader, visionary social reformer, educationist, and former Assam government minister, was commemorated on his death anniversary with a tribute program organized by Loknayak Ameo Kumar Das College in association with the Dhekiajuli Co-District Administration. The event, held in Shaheed Nagari Dhekiajuli, featured a memorial lecture and inspirational addresses from prominent dignitaries.

The program began with the ceremonial lamp-lighting by Dr Jogendra Saikia, President of the College Governing Body. Assam Cabinet Minister and Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal, the event’s chief guest, inaugurated the gathering with a speech highlighting the lasting impact of Loknayak Ameo Kumar Das. Minister Singhal announced plans for establishing a new educational institution in Dhekiajuli, aimed at fostering learning and shaping responsible citizens.

In his address, the minister also brought attention to a pressing issue involving Don Bosco School, Sirajuli, where 47 students were left without matriculation admit cards due to incomplete online registrations. Minister Singhal shared how he intervened with the support of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to resolve the crisis, ensuring the affected students received their admit cards. The programme’s motivational session was led by Rubu Bora, a newly appointed civil servant. Bora’s speech, enriched with personal anecdotes and references to the Mahabharata and Chandragupta Maurya, resonated deeply with students, inspiring them to overcome academic and personal challenges. A key highlight was the memorial lecture titled ‘Classical Assamese Language: Challenges and Expectations’, delivered by Dr Dilip Rajbongshi of Cotton University. His engaging discourse shed light on the linguistic heritage of Assam and the need to preserve its cultural richness.

Distinguished personalities, including Dr Sukadev Adhikari, Principal of Loknayak Ameo Kumar Das College, Jyoti Kamal Hazarika, retired principal of Tezpur College, Dhekiajuli Co-District Commissioner Dyutibha Bora, and civil services achiever Rubu Bora, graced the occasion.
