BOKAKHAT: “The Chief Minister of Assam is a highly-skilled and hardworking leader,” stated senior Cabinet Minister of the Assam Government Atul Bora today in Bokakhat. The minister participated in a media interaction programme held at the Tesco Resort in Bokakhat with journalists from the Bokakhat sub-division, where he also extended greetings on the occasion of Rongali Bihu and the Assamese New Year.
Bora began by wishing all the journalists a happy Rongali Bihu and Assamese New Year. In a brief interview, Minister Bora highlighted the development that has taken place under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, reiterating that Assam is fortunate to have such a capable and diligent leader. He remarked that the Chief Minister has managed to steer the allied parties forward with unity and works tirelessly day and night to implement all development plans.
When asked by journalists about preparations for the upcoming 2025 Panchayat elections, Minister Bora responded that the Panchayat elections are significant, and that under the leadership of Dr Sarma, he expects success for the ruling alliance.
Addressing a question on regionalism and the possibility of national parties overshadowing the Assam Gana Parishad (AGP), Bora said that when he assumed the role of party President, AGP was facing a deep crisis widely discussed in the media. Despite the difficult circumstances, he took responsibility and sincerely worked to make the party more people-oriented. He emphasized that AGP is a party formed from the blood and sacrifices of the people during a long movement, established for the implementation of the Assam Accord. Therefore, the public had high expectations from it. He also mentioned that without the support and cooperation of the Union Home Ministry, it would never be possible to implement the key clauses of the Assam Accord.
When asked to share advice for today’s student community based on his experience as a former student leader, Minister Bora remarked that this is the era of information technology, where the world is at one’s fingertips. Hence, students must prepare themselves to compete with students from any country in the world and strive for success. He said that the current government is also focusing on quality education.
Bora urged parents to ensure their children study well and emphasized that education is not just about textbooks. He said that every child of Assam should grow into a good human being. He reiterated the importance of the roles of parents and teachers in shaping a well-rounded individual.
Regarding the preservation of Assam’s rich Bihu culture, Minister Bora noted that the younger generation is actively practicing and performing Bihu songs and dances. As the son of a farming family, he shared that he has been closely connected to Bihu culture since childhood.
