JAMUGURIHAT: The foundation stone of a tiles manufacturing plant was laid by Padma Hazarika, MLA Sootea today at Chowkighat here. The plant initiated by Allemby Ceramics Pvt Ltd, with an investment of Rs 150 crore at 75 bighas of land at Chowkighat, is the first tiles manufacturing plant in the region.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by Commissioner of Naduar Co-district Raj Barua, Circle Officer of Naduar revenue circle Dr Akashdeep Kakaty, Chairman of Luhia Group Kailash Chandra Luhia, Director Kamal Luhia, and Managing Director Bajrang Luhia, among others. A total of 95 jobs in the tiles manufacturing plant will be reserved for the local and indigenous people.
It is to be mentioned here that the area was earlier encroached by doubtful voters. The encroached land was freed from the clutches of the doubtful voters by the Sonitpur district administration with the active initiative of Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika. Now, the freed land has been allotted to the manufacturing company for industrialization and urbanization of the locality. The plant will start functioning within a year, stated a release.
