DIBRUGARH: When the Government of Assam is putting due emphasis on income-generating activities of the farming community like mushroom cultivation through skill development training, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dibrugarh organized a 5-day vocational skill training on commercial cultivation for duly empowering the farming community.
The programme was duly supported by the Director of Extension Education Assam Agricultural University Jorhat and ATARI Zone VI Guwahati Office (ICAR). Dr Hemchandra Saikia, who is also the Senior Scientist and Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dibrugarh, highlighted the health and nutritional importance of mushroom-eating and hence mushroom cultivation besides mentioning the rising future demand for mushroom produce and various mushroom products for both economic benefit and effectively helping to manage the menace of worldwide malnutrition.
The entire programme was successfully conducted by the Course Director Dr Sanghamitra Sarma. Specialists in plant protection and resources persons from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dibrugarh and other fields who imparted the training programme were Dr Sanghamitra Sarma, Dr Sharmistha Borgohain, Dr Babita Tamuli, Shantanu Paul, KB Chetry, and successful mushroom entrepreneur Mr Anirudha Kunwar.
Altogether 20 women and men participated in the training programme successfully and certificates were distributed to all at the end of the programme.
