Assam: Nagaon administration meets scribes ahead of Panchayat elections

In preparation of the upcoming Panchayat elections scheduled to be held on May 7, the Nagaon District Administration held a meeting with scribes at the District Commissioner’s office.

NAGAON: In preparation of the upcoming Panchayat elections scheduled to be held on May 7, the Nagaon District Administration held a meeting with scribes at the District Commissioner’s office here today. The meeting was chaired by District Commissioner and District Election Officer Narendra Kumar Shah.

During the meeting, the District Commissioner emphasized that the Nagaon District Administration was working tirelessly to ensure a free and fair election. He stated that various teams, including the administration, police, flying squads, static surveillance teams, and expenditure monitoring committees, will be in place to prevent any violations of the model code of conduct.

The District Commissioner informed that polling will take place from 7:30am to 4:30pm on May 7, and the counting of votes will be held on May 11 at 8am. He also provided details on the number of voters, polling stations, and the election schedule. According to the District Commissioner, there are a total of 13,88,739 voters in Nagaon district, with 6,96,860 male voters and 6,91,793 female voters. A total of 1,781 polling stations will be set up across the district.

The election schedule is as follows: Filing of nomination papers from April 3 to April 11 (11am to 3pm), scrutiny of nomination papers on April 12, and withdrawal of nomination papers on April 17 (up to 3pm) while final list of candidates published on April 17 after 3 pm.

The District Commissioner appealed to voters to verify their names, addresses, and polling stations on the electoral roll and the Election Commission’s website. He also sought the cooperation of the media in ensuring a free and fair election.

Other officials present at the meeting included Additional Commissioner Pankaj Nagvanshi, Election Officer Shekharon Phukan, and District Information and Public Relations Officer Mandira Sayengia.
