Assam: National Workshop on translation held in Doomdooma College

A ‘Two-day National Workshop on Translation: Theory and Practice’ was organized by Doomdooma College, under the sponsorship of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).

DOOMDOOMA: Under the sponsorship of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Doomdooma College,and in collaboration with Department of English, Arunachal University of Studies, Namsai, a ‘Two-day National Workshop on Translation: Theory and Practice’ was organized by Department of English, Doomdooma College, on March 26 and March 27 at the conference hall of the college.

The inaugural session got underway with lighting of a ceremonial lamp by Vice-Principal Dr Deepak Kumar Mahanta while Assistant Professor, English Department Monica Pegu welcomed the guests. Thereafter, Principal Dr Kamaleswar Kalita delivered a thought provoking speech on translation. After him, IQAC Co-ordinator Deepak Ranjan Baruah addressed the gathering. Dr Suvam Nath Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Arunachal University of Studies, delivered the keynote address of the workshop. Dr Nabajyoti Dutta, Assistant Professor, DHSK Commerce College, spoke as the resource person on the topic ‘Translating Francis Bacon and Satyanath Bora: Prospects and Problems.’

Another resource person Dr Mechek Sampar Awan, Research Officer & Centre Head, RIWATCH Centre for Mother Language (RCML), Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh, dwelt on the topic ‘Translation Types and Trends.’ Dr CR Mohan offered the vote of thanks.

The technical session began after tea break on ‘Translation of selected essays of Satyanath Borah and Francis Bacon: Resolving the problems faced by translators.’

The first day’s technical session comprised two sessions before and after lunch. It had 6 translators and 10 other participants. On the other hand, four resource persons, Dr Nabajyoti Dutta, Assistant Professor, DHSK Commerce College, Dr Samarjit Ojha, Assistant Professor, Nagaon College, Dr Suvam Nath Sharma, Assistant Professor, Arunachal University of Studies, and Dr Bidisha Mahanta, Assistant Professor, DHSK Commerce College, took part in the workshop as resource persons.

On the second day also, the technical session continued on the same topic. It came to an end after the valedictory function was held after lunch break.
