NAGAON: In a significant move, the Nagaon district administration distributed new ration cards among the beneficiaries at separate venues constituency wise across the district on Saturday.
The initiative aims to provide essential food items to low-income families. At a function organized by district administration at the Nehrubali field in Nagaon, local MLA Rupak Sarma officially handed over new ration cards to several beneficiaries. Sarma emphasized that the ration card serves as an identity document for families, enabling them to access various government welfare schemes, including Arunodoi and Ayushman Bharat, etc.
The MLA appreciated the current government’s efforts in ensuring transparent and hassle-free distribution of ration cards, unlike in the past when poor families faced difficulties and even had to pay bribes.
As per an official press note, over 3,155 new ration cards were distributed, benefiting 13,811 beneficiaries in Nagaon Batadroba assembly constituency.
Similarly, in Barhampur constituency, over 3,645 new ration cards were distributed, benefiting 16,000 beneficiaries at a function held at Barhampur Swahid Bhavan. DC Narendra Kr Shah ceremonially inaugurated the distribution of new ration cards among the beneficiaries at Barhampur Swahid Bhavan.
Likewise, in Raha constituency, a total of 3,241 new ration cards were distributed, benefiting 13,260 beneficiaries while in Dhing assembly constituency a total of 2,207 new ration cards were distributed, benefiting 8,991 beneficiaries.
On the other hand, in Rupohihat constituency, a total of 3,024 new ration cards were distributed, benefiting 12,204 beneficiaries while in Samaguri assembly constituency, a total of 3,474 new ration cards were distributed, benefiting 15,336 beneficiaries.
The district administration has assured that the remaining families will receive their ration cards in a phased manner.
