BONGAIGAON: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, a team led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of North Salmara arrested a man with a large amount of opium. The joint operation, carried out by the OCs of Abhayapuri and Jogighopa police stations with their staff, led to the arrest of Rofikul Islam.
Islam was found in possession of 1.209 kg of opium during the raid. Acting on specific inputs, the police team carried out a well-coordinated operation, successfully nabbing the accused and preventing the narcotics from reaching its intended target.
The police have filed a case against the accused and are investigating to find out where the drugs came from and if he is linked to a larger drug network. They have increased efforts to stop illegal drug trade with regular crackdowns to dismantle such networks.
Meanwhile, in a significant operation earlier this month, Manipur Security Forces arrested two individuals, namely, Maniraj (35) and Yam Bahadur (49) of Bajagra village, 25 Miles IT Road, Kangpokpi District, along with 20 cases of Khaini containing suspected opium (Kani) weighing 642.09 grams in total, along with the weight of the cases, from the hill range of Kangpokpi District.
In another major operation against drug trafficking, a joint team of security forces intercepted a truck in Jiribam district, unearthing a huge consignment of cough syrup containing codeine phosphate.
