Assam: Orunodoi cards distributed in Lakhimpur

Orunodoi cards under Orunodoi 2.0, the poverty alleviation scheme adopted by the Government of Assam, were distributed among the new beneficiaries of the Lakhimpur district on Thursday.

LAKHIMPUR: Orunodoi cards under Orunodoi 2.0, the poverty alleviation scheme adopted by the Government of Assam, were distributed among the new beneficiaries of the Lakhimpur district on Thursday. Notably, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the scheme across the State on Wednesday at a ceremonial programme held at Kokrajhar.

Under Orunodoi 2.0, new beneficiaries numbering around 7.30 lakh have been added to the beneficiaries’ list taking the total number of beneficiaries under Orunodoi to 26 lakh across the State. In Lakhimpur district, a total of 19,679 new beneficiaries have been added to Orunodoi 2.0. A total of 775 beneficiaries of Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension Scheme and 1721 beneficiaries of Din Dayal Divyang Pension Scheme under the district have been transferred to Orunodoi 2 0.

To distribute the Orunodoi Cards in Lakhimpur, a ceremonial programme was organized at Tyag Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town in the presence of Tezpur MP Pallab Lochan Das and Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah. The agenda of the programme, which was hosted by Junuma Konwar, began with the welcome address delivered by District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan. He thanked the government for adopting a welfare scheme like Orunodai.

Speaking on the occasion, Pallab Lochan Das said that the Orunodoi scheme would be a resolution to the pecuniary difficulties of the women in the State. “The scheme is one of the steps initiated by the BJP-led government of the State towards the empowerment of women. With such steps, the State will be progressing more with empowered women. The contribution of the women towards building a healthy family and society is priceless. Orunodoi scheme has impacted positively with regard to ensuring financial and social security to the women of the State,” the Tezpur MP said.

On the other hand, Pradan Baruah said, “The Orunodai scheme has been launched in order to enhance the mental strength and self-confidence of the women. The beneficiaries should not be dependent on only this scheme with regard to the maintenance of their families. The scheme aims to alleviate their financial status.” He suggested the women visit the government offices concerned to know more about the scheme.

In the same meeting, Bihpuria MLA Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan and Dhakuakhana MLA Naba Kumar Doley also delivered lectures on Orunodoi and other schemes being implemented by BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the State. During the course of the programme, a documentary on Orunodoi 2.0 was screened.

The programme was attended by Lakhimpur Zila Parishad chairperson Manju Borgohain, ADCs Sulakshana Borpatragohain, Bhasakarjyoti Borah, Minakshi Perme, and other dignitaries.
