NAGAON: On the last day of campaigning for the second phase of the Panchayat election in Nagaon district, both ruling and Opposition parties, as well as independent candidates, actively engaged in extensive campaigning. The district is witnessing a fierce contest for 21 Zila Parishad seats, 132 Anchalik Panchayat seats, and 1411 Gaon Panchayat seats.
Prominent leaders from ruling coalition, including Rupak Sarma, MLA of Nagaon-Batadroba constituency, Shashi Kanta Das, MLA of Raha constituency, Ranjit Kumar Bordoloi, President of Nagaon District BJP, and Moni Madhav Mahanta, President of Nagaon District AGP, campaigned for the coalition candidates.
Rupak Sarma, while addressing various public meetings, expressed confidence that the BJP-led coalition would perform better than expected in the Panchayat election. He attributed this to the development work done by the Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government, which he said has drawn people towards the BJP.
On the other hand, Congress leaders, including Nurul Huda, MLA, Sibamoni Bora, MLA, Prasanta Saikia, President of Nagaon District Congress, and Mrinal Hazarika, Secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress, also actively campaigned for their party candidates. They appealed to the people to vote for Congress candidates in large numbers and were confident that the BJP-led coalition will face challenges in Nagaon. The AIUDF and Raijor Dal are contesting in a limited number of seats and their campaigning was restricted to those areas.
