GUWAHATI: Para-cyclist Rakesh Banik from Assam is preparing for an ambitious 9,000-km cycling expedition from Moscow, Russia, to Guwahati. Scheduled to begin in the first week of April, this journey aims to promote Assam tourism and support the Fit India movement.
Banik, widely known as "Rakesh Para-Cyclist," has been actively participating in national and international cycling events, overcoming challenges as a differently-abled athlete.
Since 2015, Banik has been actively involved in both social work and sports, showcasing exceptional dedication in his pursuit as a differently abled athlete. His expedition has garnered support from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. In an official letter, he urged organizations to provide financial assistance for the cyclist’s journey as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Banik expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for his support and appealed to the public for their encouragement and blessings. With his inspiring journey, he hopes to raise awareness about fitness and Assam’s rich cultural heritage while proving that physical limitations cannot hinder determination and perseverance.
Meanwhile, in a significant step towards inculcating innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among students, Prof. TG Sitharam, Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), virtually inaugurated a five-day Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship (IDE) Bootcamp at Tezpur University on Monday, February 17.
