DIBRUGARH: A passenger was detained at Dibrugarh Airport on Monday after security personnel found a 9mm bullet in his luggage during routine screening at the security checkpoint.
The individual, identified as Simbhu Dayal, was scheduled to board an IndiGo flight headed for Rajasthan when the bullet was detected. Dayal, a businessman residing in Longding, Arunachal Pradesh, for the past several years, was immediately stopped by airport authorities.
During preliminary interrogation, Dayal claimed he was unaware of the presence of the bullet in his bag. He further alleged that insurgent groups in Arunachal Pradesh had repeatedly demanded money from him, raising suspicions about potential threats.
Following the incident, Mohanbari police took Dayal into custody for further questioning. Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the source of the ammunition and assess any possible security threats.
Officials are also verifying Dayal’s background and looking into possible connections to any illegal activity. Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
In another similar incident, the Goa police detained a passenger last year in September for allegedly carrying bullets in his luggage while attempting to board a Delhi-bound flight at the Manohar International Airport, an official said. Anshul Ghai (26), a resident of Dehradun, Uttarakhand, was detained after six bullets were found in his baggage, a senior police official said.
