Assam: Pijush Hazarika reviews anti-erosion works in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika today inspected the ongoing anti-erosion works from Maijan to Mohanaghat in Dibrugarh.

The project, aimed at mitigating the long-standing issue of riverbank erosion in the region, has made remarkable progress, with 95% of the work already completed. During the inspection, Minister Hazarika expressed satisfaction over the pace and quality of the work. Talking to mediapersons, Pijush Hazarika said, “Our government is fully committed to addressing flood and erosion concerns under the guidance of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. These projects are a step forward in ensuring the safety and stability of Dibrugarh’s riverbank areas.” The project is expected to significantly strengthen the river embankments, offering much-needed relief to the people living in erosion-prone areas.

Taking to X, Pijush Hazarika wrote, “With an investment of Rs 78 crore, geo bags, aprons and porcupines are being deployed to safeguard Dibrugarh City from the Brahmaputra’s erosion. Today, I, along with my cabinet colleague @Pras21758Phukan, inspected the ongoing works, ensuring the city’s protection.” Hazarika also visited Khowang Kolowlowa Deori Gaon and Khamatighat No. 3 Charaihabi to assess anti-erosion works and directed the officials to complete all works in a time bound manner.
