SILCHAR: The Cachar police team made a significant breakthrough by rescuing three minors who fell prey to human trafficking and were sold in Rajasthan.
Acting on a complaint filed on January 24 by Bijit Karmakar, a resident of Gumrah and father of a missing minor, Numal Mahatta, the SP of Cachar, said that on January 5, Rupali Dutta and Ganga Ganju took their daughter Sunali Karmakar (15 years) and the daughter of one of his neighbors, Sumita Karmakar (15 years), to an unknown location in the pretense of providing them jobs.
While Sumita somehow managed to escape from her workplace, Sunali Karmakar remained missing. Upon returning home, Sumita revealed that they felt pressured to prepare for an unknown marriage. On receipt of this information, Kalain police registered a case and a phone call from missing Sunali; Cachar police traced the call from Rajasthan.
A special ops team of four members was formed and sent to Jaipur (Rural), wherein Sonali Karmakar was found.
The rescue operation took another turn for another missing girl identified as Sanjita Sawtal from Patharkandi of Sribhumi district in Assam. Seeing an Assam police team and speaking in the local dialect, she rushed to them for help and said that she too was trafficked similarly.
