Assam Police Identify Suspects Involved In Assault On Congress MP Rakibul Hussain

Assam Police have successfully identified the individuals allegedly involved in the assault on Congress MP Rakibul Hussain, which occurred yesterday in Rupahi.

GUWAHATI: Assam Police have successfully identified the individuals allegedly involved in the assault on Congress MP Rakibul Hussain, which occurred yesterday in Rupahi. CM Himanta Biswa Sharma and Minister Pijush Hazarika have named ten suspects linked to the incident, providing clarity on the ongoing investigation.

The persons identified are: Harun of Jamtola, Haresh of Fakoli, Basir of Tamulitup, Kasem Ali of Kawoimari, Rosidul of Kawoimari, Ayub of Gunabari, Lutkior of Rail Station, Khaleque of Rowmari, Mojibur of Gorematikhowa, and Jahangir of Koachgaon.

In response to the incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured the public that law enforcement will take appropriate action against those involved. He emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.

On Thursday, Congress MP Rakibul Hussain was attacked by a group of masked assailants while en route to a party meeting in Gunabari, Rupahihat. Witnesses said the attackers, who covered their faces with black fabric and carried black flags, also attacked Hussain's bodyguard during the clash. Hussain's security team responded by firing warning shots to guard him, managing to deflect serious injury. The attack has sparked widespread concerns over the safety of political leaders in the country.

On February 21, the Assam Assembly faced significant disruption as opposition Congress MLAs protested against the recent attack on Congress MP Rakibul Hussain. Speaker Biswajit Daimary adjourned the House twice within 30 minutes due to the uproar. Minister Pijush Hazarika stated that the government has already identified the culprit with an assurance of taking appropriate measures against them.
