Assam: Popular writer Sabharam Bharali passes away in Dibrugarh

Sabharam Bharali, former vice-principal of Dikhowmukh HS School, and noted social worker and popular writer, breathed his last at a private hospital in Dibrugarh.

GAURISAGAR: Sabharam Bharali,a resident of Dikhowmukh Bharalua village, former vice-principal of Dikhowmukh HS School, and noted social worker and popular writer, breathed his last Thursday evening at a private hospital in Dibrugarh. According to family sources, educationist Bharali, who suffered from a heart disease, went to a kith and kin of Gaurisagar yesterday where he felt uneasy. The family rushed him to Dibrugarh and admitted him to a private hospital. Today, a surgery was done but he passed away while under treatment.

Bharali was associated with various organizations since his student life. He was the founder president of AASU, Dikhowmukh Regional Unit (1972). He started his career as a police officer but resigned and later joined as a assistant teacher of Dikhowmukh HS School and got superannuation in 2013 from the school as vice-principal. He held the post of President, Dikhowmukh Sakha Xahitya Xabha, and advisor of Gaurisagar Senior Citizens Forum. He was involved with various social organizations till his death. He was a man of Gandhian philosophy and followed Mahapurush Sankardeva’s principles. He devoted his life for Srimanta Sankardev Sangh. He was also a popular writer and wrote three books, Chintan Bibidha, Jibon Bator Subhas, and Jibon Chintar Phasal, along with many thoughtful articles and above hundreds of poems which enriched Assamese literature.

His demise was widely mourned in the entire Dikhowmukh and Gaurisagar area. Today evening, his body was brought to the Dikhowmukh Milita Silpi Samaj. A rajahuwa sharadhanjali function was held where numerous organizations like Bharalua Gaon Naamghar Samaj, AASU Dikhowmukh Regional Unit, Srimanta Sankardev Sangha Sivasagar Zila Samiti, and other individuals paid tributes to him.
