Assam: Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal visits Subansiri Lower HE Project

Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal visited NHPC’s 2000 MW Subansiri Project (July 19–20) with CMD Rajendra Goyal & Director Sanjay Singh.

GUWAHATI: Pankaj Agarwal (IAS), Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India visited NHPC 2000 MW Subansiri Lower HE Project from July 19 to July 20. He was accompanied by Rajendra Prasad Goyal, CMD and Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), NHPC.

Agarwal along with the dignitaries visited the dam site and Power House complex and had a detailed inspection of various components including ongoing protection works in Diversion Tunnel Inlet area. He also took a review meeting of the project wherein Executive Director & HOP appraised him on the status of various ongoing activities. During the visit, Secretary, MoP accompanied by CMD and Director (Projects) witnessed some of the major achievements of the project. The Power House Control Room was inaugurated by the Secretary, MoP on July 20 in presence of CMD, Director (Projects) NHPC.  Executive Director & HOP, SLP and other Senior Officials were also present during the inaugural ceremony. Agarwal congratulated the NHPC team of Subansiri Lower HEP led by ED & HOP and executing agency M/s Patel Engg. for their commendable efforts for construction of one of the most advanced and state-of-the art Power House Control Room. In a significant achievement towards completion of this prestigious project, the Generator Rotor of Unit#4 weighing 673 MT (the heaviest ever equipment handled in a hydro power plant in India) was successfully lowered in pit on 20.07.2025 in the presence of the  Secretary, MoP, CMD and Director (Projects), NHPC.

The Secretary, MoP congratulated NHPC and entire team of Subansiri Lower HE Project led by Executive Director & HOP, SLP and executing agency M/s GE Vernova. This will facilitate boxing up of Unit#4 leading to early testing & commissioning of 4 Units with a capacity of 1000 MW out of 8 Units (250 MW each) totaling 2000 MW. Agarwal appreciated the efforts of the project team led by Executive Director & HOP and encouraged the team to continue working with full dedication for early commissioning of Unit # 1 to Unit# 4 and completion of the balance units as per schedule. Agarwal and other dignitaries also planted saplings within project campus symbolizing NHPC’s commitment towards sustainability and environmental responsibility, stated a press release.
