BISWANATH CHARIALI: The 8th Barnam Mrinal Sharma National Drama Festival will be held on January 5, 6 and 7 at the local Kamalakantha Natya Samaj Hall. The festival will feature eight popular theatre groups from Odisha, Maharashtra and West Bengal as well as various districts of Assam over three days. The event will be inaugurated by Naren Sharma, a prominent social worker and entrepreneur of Biswanath Chariali while the earthen lamp will be lit by District Commissioner of Biswanath, Munindra Nath Ngatey.
The first night of the festival will be opened by ‘Swikarokti’ by Suhrid Natya Group, Murshidabad, West Bengal followed by ‘Kathphula’ by the organizing group Barnam.
The first play, Madhumakshika, Voice Theater Guwahati, the second play, Satghari, Rangpeeth, Shantipur, West Bengal and the third play, Aichu, Vidya, the Living Theatre, Dhemaji will be presented on January 6.
The last day’s plays will be Revati Sevati Au Tibati, Nayika Natya Chetana, Bhubaneswar, Orissa, Khol Do, Orka, Pune, Maharashtra and Eta Nishaar Sangini, Mukha, Barpeta.
A seminar will be held on January 6 in collaboration with Biswanath College of Education which is to be attended by eminent playwright Hillol Kumar Pathak, eminent playwright and director Asim Kumar Nath, eminent actress and THB College’s senior professor Nivedita Bharali and Biswanath College lecturer Balian Bhuyan.
The Kalyan Kumar Barnam Bandhav 2025 Awards will be presented on the same day to Pankaj Jyoti Bhuyan, a prominent playwright and director of Assam.
