KOKRAJHAR: A major security breach took place at Kokrajhar District Jail in Assam when a prisoner convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act escaped on March 16. The inmate, identified as Hazrat Ali, hails from No. 1 Daukhanagar in Chirang district and had been serving a life sentence for his crimes.
The escape occurred while a cleaning operation was underway inside the jail colony, when Hazrat Ali took advantage of a security lapse to escape from custody. His escape has raised serious questions among police and prison authorities about the safety and security measures at the facility.
In the wake of the incident, Kokrajhar District Jail Superintendent Rabiram Intik has also been suspended pending inquiry. The government is conducting a full-scale probe into the circumstances under which the security failure enabled the escape.
Attempts to re-arrest Hazrat Ali are in full swing, with police and security forces deploying personnel to track down and arrest the fugitive. The incident has raised questions about the need for tighter security measures in the prison system to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
As the investigation continues, officials are demanding that tight security measures be implemented in a bid to safeguard the public and maintain the integrity of the justice system.
