Assam: Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS issued in Sonitpur

District Magistrate Issues Prohibitory Orders to Prevent Community Fishing in Protected Areas during Magh Bihu Festival.

TEZPUR: Based on reports from concerned authorities regarding potential community fishing—prohibited under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972—in Burhachapori Wildlife Sanctuary, the areas of 6th addition to Kaziranga National Park that falls under Sonitpur’s jurisdiction, and Nameri National Park during the upcoming Magh Bihu festival, the District Magistrate Ankur Bharali, has issued prohibitory orders under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

To safeguard the flora and fauna of these wildlife sanctuaries and surrounding areas, the District Magistrate has prohibited the assembly of five or more persons and any movement into the designated areas without prior permission from the competent authority. Illegal fishing activities within these protected regions have been prohibited.

These orders are applicable to the Burhachapori Wildlife Sanctuary, the areas of 6th addition to Kaziranga National Park that falls under Sonitpur’s jurisdiction, and Nameri National Park. The order takes effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice. Violation of this order will be punishable under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
