GAURISAGAR: Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Asom, Bir Lachit Sena, Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti, and Sadou Asom Mahila Samiti on Monday blocked the historic Dhodar Ali for two hours near Samaguri on the outskirts of Amguri Town in Sivasagar district in protest against the slow pace of the construction of the road. The protesters chanted slogans like ‘Public Works Department Murdabad,’ ‘Public Works Department Hai Hai,’ ‘Roads Department Hai Hai,’ ‘Amguri MLA Prodip Hazarika beware,’ etc.

Addressing the public, Ritumoni Hazarika, Central Chief Organizing Secretary of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), said that the road is being constructed under the Assam Mala scheme and the contractor Siba Harlalkar has set up a death trap in the name of construction of culverts in various parts. Hazarika also added that Rs 75 lakh was sanctioned for repairing of the road but the concerned department has turned a deaf ear instead of taking bold steps for ease of communication for the public.

The protesters were led by Udayaditya Bora, Joint Secretary of Bir Lachit Sena, Jorhat District Committee, Indrani Rajkumari, Secretary, Sadau Assam Mahila Samiti, and Robin Hazarika, Vice-President Chatra Mukti Central Committee. They threatened to close the road indefinitely and lodge an FIR against the contractor and engineer if the road is not repaired and constructed within the next seven days.
