SIVASAGAR: The Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad (Taipa) faced FIRs at Sivasagar Sadar Police Station over allegations of burning the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha’s constitution.
Protesting against the incident, Sangha devotees gathered at their district office before marching to the police station, calling it an attack on their religious identity.
Tensions arose after a Sangha member was expelled for participating in Me-Dam-Me-Phi, a Tai Ahom festival. This expulsion reportedly angered Taipa members, leading to the alleged burning of the constitution. The incident has fueled tensions, drawing strong reactions from both communities.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Dipankar Dutta, a Field Inspection Engineer at Intertek India Pvt. Ltd., was allegedly assaulted by contractor Bibhuti Phukan at the PHE Sivasagar Division office. The altercation stemmed from Dutta’s inspection report on Chetia Gaon PWSS, which highlighted incomplete work, leading to a reduced financial valuation.
Phukan allegedly pressured Dutta to certify the full sanctioned amount despite discrepancies. When Dutta refused, the argument escalated into physical aggression, causing injuries to his neck and hand.
In the days leading up to the incident, Dutta had reportedly received threatening phone calls from Phukan, pressuring him to comply. Intertek India Pvt. Ltd. has strongly condemned the attack, stressing that such violence creates an unsafe work environment and affects employee morale.
The company has urged authorities to take immediate action, conduct a thorough investigation, and enforce strict disciplinary measures to ensure the safety and integrity of professionals working on the Jal Jeevan Mission project.
