RAHA: The Railway Protection Force conducted a special drive on Sunday against the people selling items on trains without proper permission.
The team from the Railway Protection Force carried out this operation at Chaparmukh Railway station on Sunday. They initiated action against the hawkers and vendors who illegally engaged in selling goods and carrying inflammable items aboard trains.
The surprise check was conducted by a team of Railway Police Force personnel based at Chaparmukh under the supervision of Mukesh Kumar Rajak, Railway Police Force Inspector at Chaparmukh Junction. During the raid, the team was able to apprehend a total of 11 unauthorised vendors, who were engaged in the selling of unhygienic food items to the passengers of the trains passing through that region.
Meanwhile, cases have been registered under the Railway Act against the perpetrators and the apprehended persons will be forwarded before the Special Railway Magistrate, Guwahati.
Meanwhile, in order to spread awareness about road safety, the Railway Protection Force organised an awareness drive in Lumding of Assam on Sunday. They organised a street drama on the occasion.
The act presented on the street aimed to make people of the locality aware of the possible risks to people trying to cross level crossings even when the gates are closed ahead of approaching trains. The event was organised at the Harulongpher level crossing in Lumding.
Through this drama, they aimed to showcase the problems from such activities and how they put people at risk, including their own as well as that of others. Apart from showcasing what could happen in such a situation, the authorities also pointed out that people ignoring the warnings and crossing the level crossing by going under the gates can be booked under the Railways Act and given de punishment.
