RANGIA: In major crackdowns, the Government Railway Police (GRP) confiscated a considerable quantity of suspected narcotics from different railway stations in Assam.

The Rangia Government Railway Police team seized 1.43 kg of suspected opium from two accused persons during a routine checking at Platform No. 1 of Rangia Railway Station. The accused were apprehended, and necessary legal action has been initiated, officials said.

In another operation, the Karimganj Government Railway Police seized 3.86 kg of suspected ganja from two accused persons during a search at the Karimganj Railway Station. The accused were taken into custody, and further legal procedures have been initiated.

The railway police have intensified their checks to curb illegal activities along the railway routes, and investigations are underway in both cases.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) showed its dedication to protecting vulnerable people by rescuing 40 minors and two women from different railway stations between February 1 and February 14, 2025.

The rescued individuals were handed over to Child Line, NGOs, parents, and local police for proper care and rehabilitation.

This initiative was part of the RPF's ongoing efforts to stop human trafficking, rescue runaway children, and protect children from exploitation, highlighting its role as a guardian of railway passengers.
