GUWAHATI: The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has cancelled the remaining subjects of the Higher Secondary (HS) First Year Examination 2025, scheduled from 24th to 29th March, following reports of a question paper leak and breach of protocol.

The decision was made after it was discovered that some institutions had broken the seal of Class 11 Mathematics question papers before the scheduled examination time, leading to a leak.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu confirmed the cancellation and stated that further action will be decided during a board meeting on March 24. Additionally, he said that 15 private schools from 10 districts had their affiliations suspended by ASSEB due to their involvement in the incident.

Reports indicate that sealed packets of mathematics question papers, which were supposed to remain unopened until the exam, were prematurely accessed by certain institutions on 20th March. The incident raised concerns about potential leaks of other subject papers, prompting the board to take immediate action.

The Board has directed all institutions to return the question papers of the remaining subjects to the designated lead colleges for safekeeping. Officials have guaranteed the implementation of necessary measures to uphold the integrity of the examination process.

Earlier, officials in Assam's Barpeta district decided to cancel the class 9 English annual exam scheduled for March 20 after the question paper got leaked on social media.
