BISWANATH CHARIALI: A three-day long residential training programme was conducted at Pabhoi Fish Farm, one of the most prestigious scientifically well-managed fish farms in Biswanath Chariali, North Assam, for the members of the Karbi Ex-Revolutionary United Forum (KERUF). It needs mention here that KERUF is an umbrella non-government organization formed on October 2, 2021, under the leadership of Pradip Teran and General Secretary Lonki Bey, comprising six signatories from ex-armed groups of the historic Karbi Accord.

This group has been setting a remarkable example of rural economic upliftment, actively working in agriculture and allied sectors, sending a strong and positive message to society. Their success has been possible due to the mentorship, moral, and financial support from Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Assam Hiren Chandra Nath and Superintendent of Police (SP), Karbi Anglong Sanjib Kumar Saikia, along with the Karbi Anglong Police.

With assistance from the Karbi Anglong Police, the group has successfully established a poultry hatchery unit with a 30,000-bird capacity. Additionally, they are engaged in paddy cultivation across 1,000 bighas, vegetable farming in 80 bighas, and pumpkin and maize production spanning over 200 bighas of land with technical assistance of Department of Biotechnology, Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat.

Recognizing the potential of fish farming as a sustainable livelihood, SP Sanjib Kumar Saikia took the initiative to develop skills and build capacity among the youths in collaboration with Pabhoi Fish Farm, a renowned name in scientific fish culture. The first batch, consisting of 15 members, underwent a residential training from February 10 to 12, covering all key aspects of modern fishery practices.
