GUWAHATI: A rhino attack took place at the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in the Morigaon district of Assam, injuring a 55-year-old man. A one-horned rhinoceros that had strayed from the sanctuary assaulted the victim identified as Krishna Das.
According to Pranjal Baruah, the Forest Range Officer of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, the incident happened at around 6 a.m. in the Jhargaon region, which is roughly 4 km from the sanctuary. Das was transported right away to Jhargaon Primary Health Centre (PHC) after suffering serious injuries to his right leg. He then received specialised care at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) as a result of the severity of his injuries.
To locate and safely bring the stray rhino back to the sanctuary, a forest crew has been sent to the area. Villagers in the area are helping to find the animal.
The incident has occurred following a deadly rhino attack on September 30 in which Saddam Hussain, 37, was killed while riding a motorbike close to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary. Hussain, a resident of Sonapur Kachutali in Kamrup district, was attacked close to the Haduk Bridge.
A video that has gone viral shows the horrifying incident. As the animal, which can reach speeds of up to 55 kilometres per hour, chased the victim, the video showed him hastily dismounting from his bike and sprinting into an open field.
