MORIGAON: With less than 8 months left for the Assam Assembly Election 2026, the open conflict between the MLA of Morigaon constituency, Ramakanta Deuri, and the CEM of Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC), Jiban Ch Konwar, has raised eyebrows in the district.
The conflict came to light at Bihutoli ground on Wednesday evening when the MLA of Morigaon constituency took the president of Morigaon BJP, Ramprasad Sarkar, to task in a party meeting at Bihutoli ground when he saw that CEM Jiban Ch Konwar was also present in the same meeting. The conflict between MLA Deuri and the CEM Konwar suggested that the party might have split into two groups.
Along with the rest of the state, Morigaon BJP too had organized a rally, thanking the CM, Dr Himanta Biswas Sarma, for launching eviction drives against the illegal encroachers across the state. Sarkar had invited both MLA Deuri and CEM Konwar as karyakartas of the party to take part in the rally. Surprisingly, MLA Ramakanta Deuri started to abuse Ramprasad Sarkar publicly as soon as he saw the CEM of TAC, Jiban Ch Konwar, in the programme.
Reports said that MLA Deuri, who thinks of the CEM of TAC as a rival candidate, took the BJP President to task for inviting him to the programme, asking him, "Why did you invite me where the CEM of TAC is also attending."
President Ramprasad Sarkar was at a loss for words at the public humiliation. The abusive denunciation that took place in presence of party workers suggests that all is not well in the party.
