TINSUKIA: The Eco Club of Sadiya College, in collaboration with Dept of Zoology and NSS Unit of Sadiya College, organized a Sustainable Lifestyle Workshop on ‘Solid Waste Management, Vermicomposting and Rain Water Harvesting’ on February 11 at Sadiya College, Chapakhowa. The Workshop was organized under the ‘Environment Education Programme’ supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India and implemented by ASTEC, Government of Assam. More than 50 students representing all the high & higher secondary schools of Sadiya Education Block participated in the workshop along with their teacher in-charges.
The inaugural session of the workshop started with the welcome speech by Dr Nakul Neog, Coordinator of Eco Club of the College, who also highlighted the objectives of the workshop. Dr Bhupen Chutia, Principal, Sadiya College gave the inaugural speech and inaugurated the workshop. The technical session started with a talk by Dr Jai Dayal Mali, Assistant Professor, Dept of Zoology, Sadiya College, on Mission Life and Sustainable Development Goals, followed by a session on Rain Water Harvesting by Dr Nipen Nayak, Assistant Professor, Dept of Zoology, Tinsukia College.
The next session on Solid Waste Management was taken up by Jyoti Soreng, Project Research Scientist-I, Dept of Zoology, Sadiya College, followed by a hands-on session on segregation of solid waste by the students. The last session of the workshop was taken by Shumita Thausen on Vermicomposting.
The students received their certificates from Dr Bhupen Chutia, Principal, Sadiya College, and other dignitaries.
The workshop ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Jyotshna Keot, Assistant Professor, Dept of Botany. Dr Dipjyoti Kalita, Assistant Professor, Dept of Botany, Sadiya College, anchored the whole workshop.
