MANGALDAI: In a momentous occasion, a long-cherished dream has finally come to fruition! The historic Krishak Swahid Memorial at Pothorughat in Darrang district now shines bright, with generous initiative of the State Bank of India. On March 3, at 6 pm, a grand ceremony unveiled twenty remote-controlled solar lights, casting a warm glow over this revered site.

As the solar lights danced to life, the memorial transformed into a radiant beacon, paying tribute to the 140 brave heart rural Krishak Swahids who fought for the rights of the marginalized farmers on the historic day of January 28 of 1894. This illumination not only enhances the memorial’s aesthetic appeal but also serves as a symbol of hope, inspiring future generations to continue the fight for justice and equality.

Parliamentarian-cum-President of Assam State BJP Dilip Saikia in presence of both the legislators Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi of Sipajhar and Basanta Das of Mangaldai, District Commissioner Parag Kumar Kakaty, Chief Manager of SBI, Mangaldai branch Joydeep Kar and other officials ceremonially unveiled the installation of the solar lights at Pothorughat.

Mention may be made here that as per the request of District Commissioner Parag Kumar Kakaty, Mangaldai branch of SBI has taken up this thoughtful gesture demonstrating their commitment to preserve India’s rich history and promoting community development. This exemplary act of corporate social responsibility illuminates the path for others to follow, fostering a brighter future for all. In the function, Chief Manager of SBI Joydeep Kar has offered a letter of gratitude to the District Commissioner for offering the opportunity to the SBI to get involved with this historic episode.
