JAGIROAD: Morigaon District Magistrate Devashish Sharma issued several restrictions under Section 163 of the Civil Protection Code of India to ensure smooth and peaceful counting of votes in the panchayat elections tomorrow and to prevent any possible disturbances during the period. Accordingly, marches and chanting of any kind of slogans in the premises of the counting centres are prohibited. The use of microphones and loudspeakers in the premises of the counting centres is also prohibited. Sticks, fireworks, processions or large gatherings with or without flags are prohibited within a radius of one kilometre from the counting centre. After the announcement of the results, no candidate or political party will hold a victory rally in Morigaon district without prior permission of the district administration or police administration. The directive also outlines some of the rules to be followed at polling stations.
Only persons with valid identity cards issued by the District Election Officer of Morigaon and returning officers will be allowed to enter the counting centre premises. According to the directives, no one will be allowed to carry mobile phones and cameras inside the counting centres except those authorized. However, media persons who have obtained a permit from the Election Commission will be allowed to take mobile phones and cameras to the media centres set up on the premises of the counting centres.
As per the Election Commission’s directives, only the District Information and Public Relations Officer can take them to the counting room. These instructions issued with immediate effect will remain in force until the completion of the counting of votes. Violations of this rule will be punishable under Section 223 of the Indian Judicial Code, stated in a DIPRO, Morigaon, and stated a press release.
