GAURISAGAR: The 4th annual conference of Selenghat Press Club in Jorhat district was held recently at Selenghat Haluwapather Gaon Auditorium on the outskirts of Teok. The day-long programme started with the hoisting of the flag by Madan Mohan Pagbondha, President, Selenghat Press Club. It was followed by smriti tarpan initiated by Jyoti Prasad Gogoi, Organising Secretary, APCU. Later, an open session was held. The meeting was chaired by Utpal Chutia, President, reception committee while Ashim Baruah, noted social worker of Teok inaugurated it. The meeting was anchored by Madanmohan Pagbandha and Deba Bikash Dutta, President and Assistant Secretary of Selenghat Press Club.
Jogesh Ojah, noted journalist and President, AAJU, Jorhat District Committee, delivered his speech as the appointed speaker. In his speech, he compared and stressed on the past and present journalism and the prospect and challenges in the field of journalism in Assam. Besides, in the meeting, Dipak Dutta, President, APCU, Jorhat District Committee, Dibyajyoti Saikia, Secretary, Mariani Press Club, Biju Tanuwal, President,Teok Press Club, Samiron Duarah, Secretary, Sivasagar Zila Gramya Sangbadik Songha, Romen Saikia, Vice-President, AAJU, Jorhat District Committee, Runu Gohain Borah, noted cultural activist, social worker Indreswar Gogoi, Teacher Lalit Gogoi, educationist Pramod Saikia, radio artist Ratnadevi Baruah, and tea tribe leader Shiva Laskar Tanti graced the function as distinguished guests.
In the function, The Sentinel’s journalist Rajib Dutta of Gaurisagar was conferred the Arunudoi Award. Besides this, the Best Rural Reporter (Gramya Sangbadikta) award was conferred to Diganta Hazarika, journalist of Niyomi Barta of Teok. The event also gave the Xahitya Saurabh Award to prominent writer Juri Saikia of Amguri.
Later, female artiste of Bishnujyoti socio-cultural troop, Selenghat, performed Ram Parajoy Sitar Patal Gamon bhaona. Before the cultural programme, Selenghat Press Club conferred the Sikshajyoti Award to Pratap Hazarika, the pioneer of Jyoti Pratap Gyanmarg School, Teok, and the Best Entrepreneur Award to Biswajit Phukan of Selenghat.
