Assam: Seminar on ‘Transformative Role of Tribal Women from North East India’ held in Dhubri district

A two-day national seminar on ‘Transformative Role of Tribal Women from North East India’ sponsored by the ICSSR was recently held at Sapatgram College of Dhubri district.

DHUBRI: A two-day national seminar on ‘Transformative Role of Tribal Women from North East India’ sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) was recently held at Sapatgram College of Dhubri district.

The inaugural function was presided over by Dr RP Singh, Principal of the college, while the keynote address was delivered by Prof Dipak Kumar Roy, Vice-Chancellor, Raiganj University, West Bengal.

In his speech, Prof Roy highlighted the importance of self-employment and the progress made by tribal women in a traditionally patriarchal society. The welcome address was delivered by Dr K.K Roy, Head of the Bengali Department of Sapatgram College. Dr RP Singh, in his inaugural speech, appealed to the participants to emphasize women’s empowerment and the formation of future generations.

Oekpa Ichamocha Chonu, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management, Bodoland University, emphasized the need for meaningful research and making it fruitful.  Dr Indira Boro, Head of the Bodo Department, Bodoland University, highlighted the vital role played by women in preserving culture and tradition of community. The seminar featured a series of research paper presentations by scholars from various institutions. The papers were presented in technical sessions chaired by experts like Dr Jogmaya Paul, Dr Ronsai Basumatary, Dr Bapi Chandra Das, and Sourav Saha.

The seminar was convened by Dr Chautali Bhowmik while the valedictory function was chaired by Dr KK Roy, with Dr Choutali.
