DIBRUGARH: Senior journalist and writer Dr Alakh Niranjan Sahay passed away on Sunday morning at AMCH in Dibrugarh.
Sahay was associated with many social activities and was also the advisor of Dibrugarh Press Club. He was born in Jamalpur, Bihar. In 1968, he passed his matric exam from Patna. In 1972, he took admission at Bhagalpur University and he received his MA and PhD degree in Hindi from the University. He started his career as a Hindi lecturer from Jamalpur Night College in 1979. Later, he joined the Bihar GSM College. He also worked at Tinsukia Commerce College as a Hindi professor. He later joined Dibru College as a Hindi professor and retired from the college a few years ago.
Inspired by the JP movement led by JP Narayan, Sahay participated in the movement and edited a newspaper ‘Sangharsh Sandesh’. He was arrested under MISA. He is survived by his beloved wife, three daughters, three sons-in-law, two granddaughters, two grandsons, and thousands of his students. His legacy lives on through the invaluable life lessons he imparted, as well as his extensive collection of Hindi books, articles, and essays.
His funeral rites were performed at the Chowkidinghee Crematorium today.
