GUWAHATI: The Assam government prepares to unveil a groundbreaking Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Solar Energy Transaction Scheme that will transform energy trade and encourage the use of renewable energy.
This program empowers prosumers, or solar energy production entities, to sell excessive power directly to consumers, and thus, it supports decentralization and sustainability in a framework of energy supply and consumption.
The scheme is targeting the prosumers under the Rooftop Solar Scheme (RTS) that are producing surplus solar energy. Prosumers can sell surplus through a digital platform, which offers them the chance to increase income while supporting a decentralized model of energy.
The process requires one to register on the platform and make excess energy available for sale to those under the PM Surya Ghar program, among others.
Offers for energy will be available for a day with price ceilings for transparent and fair treatment. Consumers who want to enroll can then search the lists and buy the needed energy.
The transactions will automatically be credited in the appropriate energy accounts, and adjustments in the bills will be done accordingly. Unsold energy will automatically be reverted back to Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) for resale.
The move aligns with Assam's ambition of maximizing its use of renewable energy by utilizing digital solutions for the optimization of solar resources and filling gaps in energy supply. The officials expect the scheme to make more households adopt rooftop solar systems, driving the state's clean energy agenda further.
Led by APDCL, this ambitious project will hope to make Assam emerge as a leader in new renewable energy innovation. Updates on the platform and release date are expected to come in the coming weeks.
