BOKAKHAT: With the aim of providing shelter and securing the lives of visually impaired people in Assam, who have been living in extreme hardship without proper food, clothing, or housing, the ‘Mister Bitu Manabiyata Trust’ under the leadership of Bitupan Deka established Assam’s first shelter for homeless visually impaired individuals at Mohura Hahsora village in the Mohura Mouza of Bokakhat Samagila, Golaghat district. The inauguration of the Manabiyata Nirashray Drishtihin Ashram took place on April 27. On this occasion, a cleanliness drive was conducted in the morning. Trees were planted by Dharmeshwar Saikia and Shishuram Dutta.
Following this, a cultural procession was organized. The Ashram was formally inaugurated by Chandra Kanta Deka, the retired government employee who donated the land. The unveiling of a wall mural was also conducted. Retired headmaster Bhaity Bora lit the ceremonial lamp, and social worker Prafulla Deka inaugurated the stage. Padma Shri awardee Jadav Payeng was present during the intimate conversation session (Antaranga Alap). A cultural programme was also held in the evening.
