DHEKIAJULI: In a powerful celebration of Bohag Bihu, four esteemed cultural organizations of the Sirajuli unit of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Asom Natya Sanmilan, Sadou Asom Kobi Sanmilan, and Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chhatra Parishad came together this Rongali Bihu to honour 15 senior citizens of the Sirajuli area with heartfelt ‘Bohagi Boron’ visits. From 1st to 8th Bohag, members of these organizations paid tributes to elderly figures at their homes, offering traditional Bihuwans, certificates, and warm greetings that echoed the deep-rooted values of respect and cultural continuity.
Notable among the honourees were distinguished educators, writers, and artistes including lyricist Achyut Nath, playwright Binod Kumar Barman, and literary contributor Rumi Hazarika. Each visit was marked by the touching gesture of younger members kneeling to seek blessings in a vibrant testament to Assamese customs.
Spearheaded by local cultural stalwarts Dharani Keot and Sujit Kataki, and supported by key members across the organizations, these initiatives not only strengthened intergenerational bonds but also spotlighted the richness of community-led cultural preservation. In a time of change, Sirajuli’s united celebration of this year’s Bohag Bihu stood out as a beacon of unity, reverence, and heritage.
