Assam: Sivasagar Hosts Senior Citizens’ Walk Competition Amid 79th Independence Day

SIVASAGAR: The Sivasagar District Administration, in association with the Sivasagar District Senior Citizens’ Association, organised a “Senior Citizens’ Walk Competition” in Borpukhuri on 13 August 2025 as part of the 79th Independence Day celebrations.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Gouri Priya Deuri inaugurated the event, which featured four competition categories and started from the District Auditorium. Despite rainy weather, senior citizens turned out in large numbers, showcasing high enthusiasm and patriotic spirit.

The competition, conducted under the supervision of District Sports Officer Mr Sanjay Upadhyay, will have its winners felicitated during the district-level Independence Day celebrations.

Similarly, a walking competition was organised for senior citizens in Nazira on Wednesday. The competition was flagged off by Kalyan Jyoti Hazarika, Assistant Commissioner of the Nazira co-district.

The event saw the participation of nearly 70 senior citizens, who competed in two categories - men’s and women’s. In the men’s category, Rudra Chetia secured the first position, followed by Pabitra Sharma and Kumud Gogoi in second and third place, respectively. Sobharam Gogoi, Uma Konwar, and Jadu Dutta received consolation prizes.

In the women’s category, Yasmin Kar Rajak secured the first position, followed by Anju Sadhanidhar in second place and Deepti Dehingia in third place. Manumati Borgohain Konwar received a consolation prize.

Meanwhile, a Tricolour motorcycle rally was organized by Frontier HQ SSB, Bongaigaon, under the guidance of DIG Amit Kumar Thakur on Tuesday, as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign 2025.
